THE BEATIFICATION cause of Venerable Francesco Antonio Marcucci, founder of the Pious Worker Sisters of the Immaculate Conception, is important to us Filipinos because his nuns have been with us since Jan. 17, 1989. The nuns run the St. Raphael Parochial School in Calaca, Batangas where there are 289 elementary schoolchildren enrolled.
Archbishop Soc Villegas also invited them to handle campus ministry in the University of Luzon and University of Pangasinan in Dagupan. Their order is also found in Brazil (21 nuns), Madagascar (3) and Italy (90). Holy Masses in the campus are celebrated every Wednesday with Arcbishop Villegas saying Mass once a month.
Amazing healing
The amazing healing of Simonetta Frignani reportedly through the intervention of the Venerable Marcucci in July 2002 gives hope to those who pray to him for other needs, but most especially the sick.
Sister Adele Toccaceli who runs the Calaca school told me that there have been answered prayers like finding a good job, passing the board exams and finding lost things.
What happened to Simonetta?
Simonetta Frignani, a 41-year-old Italian woman, gave birth by Caesarian to her third child, a girl named Aurora, on July 2, 2002 at San Filippo Hospital in Rome. The operation was successful, but on July 3, a day after the Caesarian, she contracted a severe abdominal infection that spread to her vital organs. She underwent a series of operations, but her condition worsened until she finally fell into a coma. The doctors did everything they could, but to no avail. She was administered the Sacrament of the Sick.
In desperation, Simonetta’s mother went to the Convent of the Pious Worker Sisters of Immaculate Conception where Simonetta studied as a little girl to ask for prayers.
The Mother Superior, Sr. Maria Virgilia Trasatti, gave her a small crucifix made out of wood from the Altar of Venerable Marcucci to place under the pillow of the patient. Meanwhile, all the Sisters of the Congregation, the relatives and friends of Simonetta prayed the novena invoking the intercession of the founder for her healing.
Soon after, the patient regained consciousness and her condition gradually improved to the surprise of the doctors. This case is currently under verification by the Vatican Congregation for the Causes of Saints. Three medical doctors said “yes” that it was a miracle. Two other doctors will still give their report. After that five cardinals will study the case.
The postulator, Sister Ma. Paola Giobbi, is asking readers to pray that the Venerable Marcucci will be beatified. Simonetta visited the chapel of Venerable Marcucci last November to thank him.
